Lake washington residence
For their private residence near Lake Washington, our modern-minded clients enlisted us to take the home’s “good bones” and bring them to life. In the kitchen, creating a large, functional space was important to accommodate their big Sunday cooking ritual, but not at the expense of a streamlined look. We completely remodeled the room with a mix of white and rift-cut white oak cabinets, new quartz counter tops, marble slab backsplash, new lighting, and new minimal plumbing and appliances. To keep things sleek, we hid two wall-mounted ovens on the kitchen side of the island.
The clients also requested that there be no mantel over the fireplace, so we took it a step further to create a “reverse mantel” in which the upper half of the entire length of wall protrudes slightly over the fireplace and its new steel façade. Also in the living room, the clients brought in two quirky head sculptures sourced from one of our favorite vintage shops. Seeing these inspired us to push the style to its max. Against the clean backdrop of the room, we added unexpected art and accents to add to the playful mood.
Elsewhere throughout the house, we found places for bold statements and wow moments. In the guest bathroom, where the shower is seldom used, we were able to add a custom wallpaper panel and artwork with strong contrast. The master bathroom, though, features an airier atmosphere after we reconfigured the layout and added shiny new fixtures, fittings, and finishes. The remaining remodel elements include paint, lighting, and refinishing of the existing oak hardwood floors. The overall result is a mix of surprise, delight, comfort, and ease.
